Little Tykes Cozy Cottage Re-Do: Part 2

As we dive into Part 2 of the Little Tykes Cozy Cottage transformation, I’m excited to share our progress—and a few lessons learned along the way. This little cottage has become a special spot in our backyard, and with a few personal touches, it’s starting to feel like a tiny version of home!

Building a Foundation

The first big step was setting the cottage on a stable base. I decided to use pavers underneath to keep things clean and dry, especially after it rains. Not only did the pavers provide a solid foundation, but they also saved the playhouse from sinking into the grass—a win-win for both function and appearance! If you’ve ever been seven months pregnant and working on a backyard project, you know this wasn’t exactly a breeze, but it was worth every bit of effort. If you would like more information on what I purchased and details on size check out my initial post about the Cozy Cottage Re-do.

Lessons Learned: Flagpole Woes

One thing I can confidently say is that playground flags were not the right fit for this project. They were much too big for the width of the flagpole, which was a bit of a letdown. But in the spirit of DIY, I repurposed an old curtain rod holder (the smallest size) that worked beautifully for now. It’s a bit longer than I’d like, but I plan to upgrade it eventually. Sometimes, it’s about making things work with what you’ve got!

3M Strips to the Rescue

Attaching house numbers and accessories can be tricky, especially if you want to avoid damage to the playhouse itself. I decided to use outdoor 3M strips, which are double-sided and work wonders. I was impressed with how easy it was to cut the strips to match the shape of the house numbers. A little pro tip: use very sharp scissors, because the strips can get pretty sticky and tough to cut!

Project Supervisor on Duty

Of course, no backyard project is complete without a little helper! My daughter was my project supervisor for the day, happily assisting me while munching on two popsicles. She was thrilled to ring the doorbell we added and watch as we attached everything. Seeing her excitement made all the effort worth it.

What’s Next?

We still have a few more finishing touches before we can call this project complete, and I can’t wait to share them in Part 3. Keep an eye out for the final details, including attaching the planter and my plans for the interior of her Cozy home.
